CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A Chesterfield man charged with aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties with a child by a custodian works as a teacher in Hanover County.

Leslie E. Deane Jr., 64, was arrested on Monday, June 27, and charged with aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties with a child by a custodian, according to Chesterfield Police.

Earlier this month, police said they received a report that Deane, of Neptune Drive, had inappropriately touched a juvenile female, who is known to him, on at least one occasion. The victim attends an in-home daycare that is operated at Deane’s residence.

Deane has worked in Hanover County Public School for 25 years. He is currently a teacher at Chickahominy Middle School.

"We became aware of Mr. Deane’s arrest late this morning and the matter was immediately referred to our Human Resources Department," Hanover Schools spokesman Chris Whitley said. "It will be addressed by our HR Department pursuant to school board policy as are all matters of this nature."

Neighbors said the daycare was always highly recommended and always full.

"I don't have anything negative to say," said one neighbor. "I feel badly for them, and if it did happen, I feel badly for the other family too; I just hope the truth comes out."

CBS 6 stopped by the house and found a note which said the family hopes to be left alone.

Police continue their investigation into this incident. Anyone with information should contact the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660 or www.crimesolvers.net.
