VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A teenager walked away with no serious injuries after a massive Jet Ski explosion on the water near the Cove Resort campgrounds in Virginia Beach Sunday afternoon.

“I went up in the air, I opened my eyes, I was on my way down and I was like oh crap this is really happening," said 17-year-old Sean Amerman.

A retired firefighter and the husband of the campground manager jumped into the water to rescue the teen. Other first responders who were off duty and vacationing in the area also jumped in to help in the rescue.

A witness told WTVR sister station WTKR he saw the explosion and saw the teen fly into the air.

“The explosion, again he went 30 feet in the air. The fireball from the explosion was probably 60 feet in the air,” he said. "

It’s amazing he walked away with no injuries."

Amerman was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department are investigating what caused the Jet Ski to explode. The Jet Ski has been removed from the water.
