RICHMOND, Va. – A storm that dropped anywhere from one to four inches of rain in  a short time and hustled through the area with tropical storm force winds – gusts averaging around 60 -65 mph – also left widespread damage in its wake.

Photographer Jamie Betts captured a stunning photo of the storm moving through the area.

The photo was snapped at 9:39 p.m. from the Flood Wall in Manchester.

Betts, a fine art, commercial and editorial photographer based in Richmond, has been chasing and photographing storms for almost 10 years now.

“I take trips to the Midwest every now and chase tornadoes,” Betts said.  It’s an exciting hobby and most of the time you don’t get anything.”

“The chase and the expectation make it worth it,” he added. “Nature is so crazy!”

Betts has studied weather and is a local storm spotter for SKYWARN. He uses an app designed for storm chasers.

“Through my experiences I have learned where to set up to get the best photos,” Betts said.
