RICHMOND, Va – After the worst mass shooting in recent history, there was an immediate and urgent call for blood donors to help the hospitals working with the massive influx of injured.

Virginia Blood Services and the American Red Cross have been doing everything possible to support those in need after the Orlando tragedy.
Leaders at the non-profits says they've been seeing a lot of people come out to donate or ask how they can help as a response to the shooting.

Right now, there’s an urgent need for O negative, O positive, and AB plasma blood donors.

Executive Director of Virginia Blood Services Todd Cahill says they already sent a shipment of blood to Orlando Sunday.
Officials from the Red Cross also told CBS 6 they've been providing blood products to support Florida hospitals.

Tuesday is World Donor Day, if you’d like to donate blood, you can do so with the American Red Cross or Virginia Blood Services.
