‘Kehinde Wiley – A New Republic ‘exhibition opens Saturday at VMFA

RICHMOND, Va. --  The wait is finally over, “Kehinde Wiley – A New Republic” exhibition will open to the public Saturday, June 11 at The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Museum Director Alex Nyerges says of the artist “Wiley is one of the most popular artists in America today."

"The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts was one of the first comprehensive art museums to acquire his portraits, and we are thrilled to present a larger selection of his work to the public. These paintings and sculptures challenge centuries of stereotypes, and we hope our visitors will feel engaged and make the connection between Wiley’s works and those in our galleries.”

The exhibition features more than 50 monumental paintings and sculptures and will be on view June 11 through September 5. The museum is also offering several events that include an Artist Talk with Kehinde Wiley Friday, June 10, at 6 pm, tickets are required and a family day - Celebrate African and African-American Art Saturday, June 11, from 11am - 3 pm, Participants receive free admission to the exhibition thanks to the Richmond, VA.
