CHESTERFIELD, Va. – Chipotle employees were filmed dumping liquid down into the storm drain. When CBS 6 peeked into the drain, we found wrappers, utensils, and salsa cups. A sludge was settled inside the drain.

The Department of Environmental Quality determined that the liquid being dumped was water from floor and table cleaning. The agency confirmed the incident is under investigation and are following up with the Chipotle managers at the Hull Street location.

They tell CBS 6 if it happens again there could be a civil penalty for whoever is responsible.

"Storm drains in Virginia are for stormwater, they are vital when it comes to getting rainwater off the streets,” said Peggy Sanner, Chesapeake Bay Foundations Assistant Director.

She said nothing but storm water should be in those drains

"We have to keep these drains clear meaning no oil, no paint, no grass clippings, no leaves, all that blocks and introduces pollutants into our waterways,” Sanner said.
