Woman survives small plane crash in Stafford County

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. -- Virginia State Police are investigating a small plane crash at the Stafford Regional Airport Monday evening.

State Police said the crash happened at 5:33 p.m. near Interstate 95 in Stafford County.

“A single-seat, experimental aircraft was conducting a high-speed taxi on the runway of the Stafford Regional Airport, when the aircraft unintentionally lifted off the runway,” State Police said in a press release.  “The aircraft cleared the Centreport Parkway before crash-landing into an embankment alongside the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 at the 137 mile marker.”

The pilot, Roberta A. Boucher, 62, of Fredericksburg, Va., survived the crash and was transported to Mary Washington Hospital. Her injuries are considered serious, but non-life threatening.

The State Police crash investigation remains ongoing at this time.

The NTSB has been notified and the FAA is responding to the scene.

The southbound lanes of I-95 were re-opened by 6:02 p.m.
