NORMANDY, Mo. — Parents were caught on video fighting students inside Normandy High School.

Five adults were allowed to enter the high school, go to a classroom and begin fighting with students.

A fight broke out in the middle of sixth period in a hallway between teenagers and adults.

Jennifer Williams’ 14-year-old daughter is a freshman who was in class when she said a junior came in and called out a sophomore. A fight soon erupted in the hall.

Williams’ daughter said, “Her [the junior’s] mother and her aunt came from around the corner and started fighting the students, but I never knew what they were fighting about.”

The 14-year-old said with a lot of people in the hallway, she got pulled into the fight.

“She [the junior] started hitting me so I hit back and then her mom tried to hop in the fight and hit me,” said Williams’ daughter.

Williams’ daughter said the fight went on for 10 minutes before any one broke it up. She said security guards should be present all around the school.

Even though she was not involved in the fight, she says administrators are not allowing her back into school until they figure out what happened.

Bob Herman, the Williams family attorney, sent a letter to the district outlining what he called a complete failure of their duties.

“Why are adults allowed to go into the school and go anywhere they want to and for a purpose which turns out was attacking or encouraging their child in attacking another student, how is this even happening in this day in age?” said Herman.

Police say they are involved in the case and they arrested a 34-year-old woman who participated in the fight. She is charged with assault.

On Friday, the Normandy School District released the following statement: “With the parent securing legal representation, we have to forward this document to our attorneys to review. Consequently, we are unable to provide a comment on the situation at this time as this may possibly become a legal issue.”

The district then released an additional statement:

Student safety is a top priority for the Normandy Schools Collaborative. To ensure the safety and security of our students and staff, the Collaborative has an established security procedure for visitors to follow when entering our campuses and buildings. Our security team is reviewing the district’s procedures to further tighten the process. Our intent remains the safe and orderly conclusion of the school year.
