HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A smoke alarm woke up two children, who then woke up their aunt who was sleeping inside a home that was filling with smoke. All three safely made it out of the home

Henrico Fire crews responded to the home at about 12:26 a.m. Wednesday.

"Personnel arrived to find smoke coming from the front of single rancher-style home," Henrico Fire spokesman Capt. Taylor Goodman said. "Firefighters immediately pulled hose lines and began a search of the home. The searches revealed that everyone was out and accounted for."

The woman who escaped the home was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

"Firefighters credit working smoke alarms in the house to saving the family," Goodman said.

Firefighters brought the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

The Fire Marshal has ruled the fire accidental. It is believed the fire started in the utility room.
