RICHMOND, Va. -- Each week I leave the WTVR CBS 6 weather center and take on a different job in the community. In this week's Nikki-Dee Can You Be Me? segment, I joined Steve Flournoy and his team at C. S. Flournoy Inc. to try tree stump grinding and tree removal.
When I arrived at the tree removal job site, Steve and his team quickly gave me my uniform.
The uniform included a hardhat, gloves, ear plugs, and safety goggles.
Steve reminded me safety is the first priority.
Once I was wearing the proper clothes, I was able to go to work.
I used a chainsaw to cut up a large tree.
We left the wood at the home for the family to use as they wished.
Next I put on climbing gear and got into the company's bucket truck.
In the bucket, I controlled the speed, direction, and height.
I was surprised how easy it was to operate.
The little limbs did not make the best firewood, so we grinded them.
Yes, they have a large machine attached to their work truck that can grind limbs.
It was a lot of fun and a very eye-opening experience.
Steve even said he would hire me to be part of his team!
