Riverside Regional Jail reopens after armed man caught nearby

PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – Multiple agencies responded to the report of a suicidal person  near the Riverside Regional Jail.

The person was at the Appomattox River Regional Park and threatened to harm himself or any law enforcement who tried to help him. He was reported to have weapons in the vehicle.

Prince George Fire had a boat in the water and police were on the scene.

Prince George Police located the man at the park and were able to negotiate with him. He had a crossbow on him according to police. He was taken into custody and is expected to receive a mental evaluation.

Local police closed the entrances to the facility at the Riverside Regional Jail.

As a result, no visitation was allowed at the jail temporarily.
