MILWAUKEE -- Witnesses told the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office that a child in the back seat of a car got hold of a gun and fired a single bullet into the driver's back.

The incident happened in the southbound lanes of I-41/State Hwy. 175 around 10:30 a.m., according to officials.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene around 10:30 a.m. and found a 26-year-old woman with a gunshot wound according to WITI. She was pulseless and not breathing.

A witness told authorities that a child in the back of the car got hold of a gun and shot the woman driving in the back. (WITI)

Deputies began CPR until the Milwaukee Fire Department arrived, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"People were panicking and you could tell people were generally trying to help," said Kourtney Blevins. "I know there’s some little boys down there which they put in a police car. It was two little boys -- it looked like some kids were involved unfortunately."
This is a developing story.
