VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — In a quest to honor her grandfather, a Virginia Beach fifth grader decide to raise money to create care packages for Military Working Dogs deployed overseas.

Kylie Blake raised over $2,700, which allowed her to send more than 60 care packages to service dogs all over the world, including Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Guam.

She sent boxes filled with blankets, treats, toys, and medical items for her four-legged friends.

“The dogs are really happy and then they send pictures of the stuff that I send them, they are really beautiful dogs,” Kylie told CBS 6 sister station WTKR.

The K-9’s weren’t the only ones to receive gifts though. Many of the dog handlers who received the goodies sent Kylie thank you notes and photos of the K-9’s with the presents.

“It makes me feel happy that they actually care that I sent it,” she added.

All of this started as a project Kylie started to honor her late grandfather, who served in the military for four years.

Although she has already reached her goal, she said she will keep donating as long as people keep donating. A GoFundMe page has been set up for anyone who would like to donate.
