HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Police are investigating a fatal shooting near the intersection of Laburnum Avenue and Alma Avenue. Businesses owners and witnesses in the area report a heavy police presence.
“On Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at approximately 2:03 PM, Henrico Police responded to a firearm violation near the intersection of E. Laburnum Avenue and Pilots Lane,” Henrico Police spokesman Lt. Chris Eley said. “Officers located male victim suffering from obvious signs of trauma who was pronounced [dead] at the scene. The motive and cause of death is unknown, and detectives are continuing their investigation.”
Henrico Police did not confirm whether they were still looking for a gunman. Police sources tell CBS 6 there are two suspects and they are not in police custody at this time.
The victim’s name has not yet been released as police work to notify family members.
“This is a busy part of Laburnum Avenue, a lot of people out on foot, 2 o’clock in the afternoon, nice day. We hope if anyone saw anything or knows anything about what happened today, they will contact us at 804-501-5000,” said Eley.
Westbound on Laburnum Ave. is back open, but Eastbound between Alma Avenue and Pilots Lane will be closed until further notice, according to police.
