CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — No one was injured when a small plane’s landing gear collapsed as it touched down at the Chesterfield County Airport Wednesday morning.
State police were called to the airport’s main runway at 11:45 a.m. for a report of “an aircraft that had received damage upon landing.”
“The single-engine Piper aircraft had taking off from the Chesterfield Airport, completed its flight and was coming back to land when upon touching down the landing gear collapsed causing the aircraft to slide to a stop,” Sgt. Steve Vick with Virginia State Police said.
Vick said the accident damaged the plane’s fuselage and propeller.
The pilot, who was the only person on board, was not injured.
Vick said the FAA and NTSB were notified.
Troopers and the FAA are investigating the incident.
