RICHMOND, Va. – The overcast day couldn’t dim the colorful, beloved Richmond tradition of Easter on Parade.
Everyone got their moment in the spotlight, the tall, the clowns, the dapper, the tacky, even the fire jugglers.
The annual tradition is known by some as the ultimate people watching event in Richmond. Locals young and old strutted up and down Monument Avenue.
The damp day didn’t dampen spirits.
"So my thing was going for something tacky, fun, a blast from the past!” said Carolyn Collier, who moved to Charlotte, North Carolina a few years ago.
But the native Richmonder grew up coming to Easter on Parade with her family.
Her hat is made of family memories.
“The base of my hat is actually the one my mom wore on her honeymoon in Jamacia,” she said. “The ornaments and the bunny are from my childhood. We actually had an Easter tree! “
Many richmonders said Easter on Parade is just the right mix of tacky and nostalgic.
"What's kind of nice and charming is that it doesn't change too much,” Collier said. “Which is why I like coming back!”
