RICHMOND, Va. — An Internet hoax got some Will Ferrell fans all excited Monday morning. A website called localnews33 posted an article with the headline Step Brothers 2 to Begin Filming in Richmond, Virginia this Fall.
Unfortunately for fans of Ferrell and co-star John C. Reilly, it is just not true.
This headline is an Internet hoax
Margaret Finucane, with the Virginia Film Office, said she believed the hoax article picked up on the reader’s location and simply added in the nearest city to the headline as the potential filming spot for the sequel. A sequel, which by the way, has not even been announced.
Curious readers could have figured out the hoax themselves, had they clicked the localnews33 “about us” section, which reads:

Finucane said the film office was excited about itsrecent announcement that the PBS series Mercy Street would soon begin filming season two in Richmond. So we have that going for us, which is nice.
