RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond Flying Squirrels and the San Francisco Giants have announced a four-year extension to the current player development contract between the two organizations.

The four-year deal is twice as long as the industry standard and will keep the team affiliated with the Giants through the 2020 season.

Bobby Evans, General Manager for the San Francisco Giants said the organization is looking forward to many years together with the Flying Squirrels.

“Our commitment couldn’t be communicated in a stronger way by the longest deal we would make, which is a four year extension.”

He also praised the minor league affiliate for their commitment to their players and coaches as well as their work in the Richmond community.

“We looked at Richmond as a place we hope to be long term,” Evans said. “We really appreciate the city and really value the commitment that Richmond showed us initially to their commitment to baseball.”

The Squirrels will be back in action on April 7, on the road and April 14, at the Diamond.
