George Schmetzer, 22, killed in Hanover crash

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — George Schmetzer, 22, of Hanover, was killed in a Sunday night car crash, according to the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. The wreck happened at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, not far from Route 301. The road was closed for almost four hours.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that a silver 2012 Infiniti 4-door sedan, driven by Schmetzer, was traveling east on Rural Point Road when it ran off of the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, Mr. Schmetzer, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deputy Karen Godfrey said. “Investigators continue to evaluate evidence in an effort to determine all factors leading up to this incident.”
