Man arrested for Chesterfield apartment shooting; neighbors heard shouts before gunfire

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A man is behind bars after a late-night shooting at a Chesterfield apartment complex that sent one man to the hospital.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired in Falling Creek Apartments in the 2400 block of Marina Drive around 10:15 pm Friday night.

Witnesses told investigators they saw two men arguing outside when both of them pulled guns and opened fire.

One of the men suffered a gunshot wound.

Paramedics took the victim, a 24-year-old man, to the hospital. Police haven't released his name and there has been no update on his condition.

Officers arrested 28-year-old Christopher D. Turner at the scene. He is charged with malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Neighbor: 'I saw two people on the ground'

People who live at the apartment complex told WTVR CBS 6’s Brendan King that they heard shouting before the shooting.

Anthony Smith, who lives nearby the shooting scene, said he heard two rounds of gunshots.

“When I opened the door I saw two people on the ground with the police around them and the ambulance coming,” Smith said. “I hope there`s justice and the guy, praise God, that he survives this ordeal.”

At the scene, there was blood splattered on cars and the pavement. There were bullet holes seen in several cars and tires.
