Want your child in pre-k? Here’s where to go, what to bring

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va -- Chesterfield parents interested in registering their children for prekindergarten for the 2016-2017 school year can now begin applying.

The district has limited seating in its pre-k classes at 19 schools. There are several requirements for children and their families to qualify:

  • The child must be four years old by September 30
  • The family must be zoned for a school that offers pre-k

Parents can apply at Perrymont Middle School, at 8610 Perrymont Road. Applications will be accepted between 1 and 6 p.m.

These are the dates for registering for pre-k at the district's several schools:

  • March 1: Ettrick, Harrowgate, Salem Elementaries
  • March 8: Crestwood, Chalkley Elementaries
  • March 15: Beulah, Hopkins Elementaries
  • March 22: Bensley, Bellwood, Ecoff Elementaries
  • April 5: Elizabeth Scott, Providence, Reams Elementaries
  • April 12: Falling Creek, Davis Elementaries
  • April 19: Crenshaw, Hening, Marguerite Christian and Jacobs Elementaries
  • April 26, May 3, May 10: all schools

Parents should bring the following:

  • Your child (for a screening)
  • Your photo ID
  • Your child's original birth certificate
  • Proof of income, like a W-2 for each parent, or a 2015 tax form
  • Proof of residency, like a year-long lease or a deed for a home in the county
