John Jasper Founder’s Day

RICHMOND: John Jasper (1812-1901) was a famous and celebrated 19th century preacher in Richmond and was also well-known around the state of Virginia. During his lifetime he became one of the most popular preachers in the country.  He organized the Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church in September 1867 and every  year the church remembers honors the Reverend with a special service celebrating his life.

This year's John Jasper Founder's Day is Sunday, February 21, at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church, the service starts at 10:45am. Local Legends will also be honored, Congressman Bobby Scott, Florence Neal Cooper Smith (VUU & Sickle Cell Anemia Advocate) and Judge John Charles Thomas. For more details visit http://www.smzbc.org/.
