RICHMOND, Va. -- Two gunmen forced their way into a home early Thursday morning, robbed the couple who lived there and sexually assaulted a woman, according to Richmond Police. The crime was reported at about 3:30 a.m. along the 700 block of North First Street, near Jackson Street, in Richmond's Jackson Ward neighborhood.

"It appears the male victim left his home briefly at that time when the two males, brandishing handguns, approached him and forced him back into the dwelling," Richmond Police spokesman James Mercante said. "At this time detectives do not know if this was random or not random."

Police have not released information about the suspects. The condition of the woman who was assaulted has not been released. Police asked witnesses to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
