ELLINGTON, Conn. — State police, with the help of a trusty K-9, said they rescued a missing woman overnight by pulling her from frigid waters in Ellington.

WFSB reportsCaroline Boudle, 55, was found just off of Route 30 early Thursday morning.

Troopers said the temperatures, which were in the 20s, were part of the reason they were concerned about finding the woman.

They said they launched a full-on search. A silver alert was issued.

They also sent out text alerts to residents in a five-mile radius of Eaton Road and asked them to keep an eye out.

Boudle was last seen walking on Route 30 around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. She had left her home in Tolland on foot.

Around 3 a.m. on Thursday, a trooper noticed footprints in the snow near a shoulder of Stafford Road. They led into a wooded area.

Boudle was found by a K9 named Axle about three miles away from her Tolland home in a body of water just south of the Route 140 intersection in Ellington.

Axle’s handler said the dog spotted a small spot in the snow and took off. He said the dog likely saved her life.

Troopers said she suffered from hypothermic conditions and was eventually taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
