ORLANDO, Fla. — A 13-year-old Orlando boy died after he was accidentally shot at a relative’s home. An 18-year-old told investigators he was playing with a gun while on a hoverboard when he fell and the gun went off.

“I just saw him last week playing basketball in the driveway. It’s sad,” neighbor Paula Stafford said.

Stafford was talking about 13-year-old Lavardo Fisher. Fisher, deputies said, died from an accidental gunshot wound to the head.

A sheriff’s spokeswoman said the homicide unit would conduct a death investigation to see if any charges should be filed.

“We want people to be responsible about their guns – how they lock them up because this is a terrible and tragic example of kids playing with guns,” Jane Watrel, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, said.

Investigators said Fisher was visiting a relative’s house Sunday when two 18 year olds found an unsecured gun in a bedroom, started playing with it, and it went off.

A 45-year-old man, who was not at home at the time of the shooting, was later arrested by detectives for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
