RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) is hoping to get the word out about a dog that was recently dropped off at the center. The dog, a 14-year-old named Missy, was left there by her owner’s ex-husband after her longtime owner died.

“Senior dogs and cats that are surrendered because their owner dies rips my heart in a way that bring me to tears. Not only have these pets lost their person, but they’ve lost their home, their couch, their bed, their special sun spot, their world. They are brought to RACC scared and shaking. We try to make life here nice with snuggles and walks and blankets, but they are not fooled,” Richmond Animal Control posted on Facebook. “They miss their life at home with the person they loved.”

Richmond Animal Care and Control further explained the situation on Facebook.

She was surrendered by her owners ex husband who showed up to RACC without an appointment and said “If you don’t take her right now I’m going to take her to Norfolk and let her loose.”

My somewhat crazed response was “You better zip that talk right now because abandonment charges are the same in Norfolk as they are in Richmond and I WILL Find You.”

Long story short Missy needs a home-a sweet kind home where she can live out her days in peace. She is fixed, hound/shep mix, has cataracts in both eyes, house broken, kind with other dogs and is looking for a quiet place to call home.

Richmond Animal Care and Control asked for help finding a home for the dog. Click here for more contact information.
