Firefighters run out of burning home as ammo inside explodes

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va — Firefighters were able to escape from a burning home in Disputana moments before ammunition being stored inside began to explode Tuesday night.

Crews were called to a home in the 10800 block of East Quaker Road just after 10 Tuesday night. When they arrived, they found a home completely on fire.

As they fought the blaze, firefighters found out ammunition was being stored inside. Moments after they escaped, they began to hear the ammunition exploding.

One firefighter had minor injuries. He was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center for evaluation. Firefighters did not elaborate on the nature of the injuries.

One person who lived in the home was able to get out safely.

Crews say the home is a total loss. There’s no word on what may have caused the fire, but firefighters said it did not appear to be suspicious.
