SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — It was one of the hottest gifts to give and get this Christmas. Videos of people enjoying (and falling off) their new hoverboards filled social media channels in the days leading up to and following December 25. The popularity of the item not only made it a hit with kids, but also with some criminals.

Three days after Christmas, a group of hoverboard riders in the Breezewood/Breezewood Forest community told Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s investigators that they were approached by two men with guns.

“Several persons were riding their new hoverboards in the area of Daffodil Drive and Stony Creek Drive at 2:40 p.m., when a black older model sedan pulled up to the victims,” the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office posted online. “Two males exited the vehicle and after producing a handgun, robbed the victims of their hoverboards.”

Police posted two suspect sketches on Facebook.
