RICHMOND, Va. -- One person was killed in a head-on collision near Richmond’s Byrd Park. Two vehicles collided at approximately 7:25 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of South Boulevard.

A 2013 Hyundai Sonata driving northbound on Park Drive crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2002 Honda Accord traveling southbound.

The adult passenger in the Honda was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died at the hospital. Police identified her Wednesday as Helene V. Day, 71, of the 1500 block of Westover Hills Boulevard

The driver of the Honda and the other passenger were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger of the car traveling north were not injured.

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team responded to the scene, where they took measurements and interviewed witnesses. Both vehicles are being processed by RPD investigators.

Charges are expected following consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney.
