CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- An argument led to a fire at a Chesterfield gas pump, according to Chesterfield Police. There were two explosions before the fire broke out near the gas pumps at the 7-Eleven on Jeff Davis Highway near Willis Road Monday morning.
The fire was sparked by a domestic situation. When the driver tried to leave the gas station in a red Chevrolet Suburban, she backed up into the gas pump and knocked it over, police said. That caused the explosions. By the time firefighters arrived, the pump was on fire.
The car then sped off along Jeff Davis Highway. Police tracked them down to Virginia Motel on Jeff Davis Highway. Police took the people in the car into custody for questioning, but they're not expected to be formally arrested for this incident.
Jeff Davis Highway, near Willis Road, reopened before rush hour Monday morning after crews closed street to contain the gas pump fire.
