GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Holidays are all about giving and one 8-year-old South Carolina girl did just that, give.

Ellery Owen asked Santa for either a sewing machine or money to donate to the Shriner’s Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina, where her sister is a patient.

Ellery’s mom told WHNS that Santa gave her $40 and left the girl to decide what she wanted to do with it. Ellery decided to pay it forward and donate the money to the hospital.

“I wanted to give the money to Shriners so other kids could run jump and play,” Ellery said.

She presented the hospital with the check in a ceremony Wednesday. Ellery said she was inspired by the great work and help Shriners hospital gave to her sister.

“She wrote on the letter that she wanted Santa to bring her money to give to Shriners so she could help people like her sister,” her mom said.

“It was easy because the money was meant for Shriners,” Ellery said.

Now, Shriners and Ellery’s mom have received several calls from people who want to give the 8-year-old a sewing machine.

The hospital said arrangements have been made to give Ellery a sewing machine and her mom has asked anyone who wants to help to make a donation to the hospital.
