NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Police were called to Patrick Henry Mall after several fights involving teenagers broke out Saturday evening, WTKR reports.

Emergency dispatchers said they got the call at 5:17 p.m. for fights in the food court.

According to Newport News police, no shots were fired and no officers injured.

Police said a 17-year-old girl was injured, but that she refused medical treatment.

Meg Albertson, who is visiting the area from Savannah, Georgia, inside the mall with her daughter walking out of Dillard's when she spotted the melee. She and her daughter took shelter in a jewelry store.

"Masses moved on to another area of mall and a few of us made a run for if," Albertson wrote on Facebook. "Luckily found a hallway that led outside as every store on lockdown now. Police and mall cops are completely out numbered. Have never experienced anything like this before."

Police said the mall was never on lockdown and was not evacuated. However, some teenagers were escorted from the property.

Police warned of heavy traffic since patrons were trying to leave the area.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, officials said.
