Clinton campaign: Trump’s ‘degrading language’ hurts women

WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton has one reaction to Donald Trump’s use of a vulgar term directed toward her: Rise above.

“We are not responding to Trump but everyone who understands the humiliation this degrading language inflicts on all women should. #imwithher,” Clinton Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri tweeted on Tuesday.

The dig at Trump comes after he attacked Clinton during a Monday night rally, saying she “got schlonged” in her last election — using a term derived from a vulgar Yiddish word for penis – and that her extended bathroom break during the Democratic debate was “too disgusting” to talk about.

The campaign used Palmieri’s Twitter account to serve as its only reaction, which was retweeted by Clinton’s male press secretary, Brian Fallon, who often serves as her mouthpiece on Twitter.

It was the latest flare-up in what has increasingly become a campaign between the two party front-runners. Also during Saturday’s debate, Clinton said ISIS was using footage of the Republican mogul to recruit, though there is no video evidence of that.

Despite Trump’s calls for an apology, the Clinton camp said “hell no” and stuck by the claim.

As both candidates remain prohibitive favorites for each party’s nomination in polling, they are increasingly focusing on each other over their primary opponents in bids to fire up their bases for the general election.

The pair have a long history with each other, including the Clintons attending his last wedding. But the language used by each toward the other has been anything but friendly, with Monday’s rhetoric being only the latest escalation.
