RICHMOND, Va. -- A man was killed in an early-morning shooting Saturday on Midlothian Turnpike in Richmond.
Officers said they were called to the 6500 block of Midlothian Turnpike a little after 1 a.m. in response to reports of a person shot. Shortly after arriving on scene, they found 42-year-old Anthony C. Herndon of Henrico suffering from a gunshot wound.
Herndon was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
An employee of the Midlothian Inn confirmed to CBS 6 off camera that is where the shooting happened.
Another employee said the victim was trying to run toward the office of the motel, but was shot on a walkway.
Neighbors in the area say it is sad to hear about the violence, but say crime is nothing new.
"The crime as a whole has to stop, the murder has to stop, it's senseless," one neighbor said.
Police said they are actively working all available leads and gathering additional information as part of the ongoing investigation.
