HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A Henrico Police officer and a passenger in a car were taken to the hospital late Tuesday night after a shooting at a gas station on Nine Mile Road and Gordons Lane in eastern Henrico. The officer fired into the car after the vehicle hit him in the gas station's parking lot, police said. The conditions of both the passenger and Henrico Police Officer have not yet been released.
The situation began Tuesday night at about 10:30 when the officer approached the vehicle to investigate what police called suspicious activity.
"[The officer] observed the vehicle parked on the lot and he approached the vehicle to determine what was going on at 10:30 at night," Henrico Police spokesman Lt. Chris Eley said. "He was talking or interacting with driver and the driver put the vehicle into drive and struck the officer. At that point he [the officer] discharged his firearm."
The officer's shot struck a passenger in the vehicle. The other person in the vehicle was taken into custody by Henrico Police.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and this is a developing story. Anyone with additional information can submit a news tip here.
