CHESTERFIELD, Va. – A Virginia State University student has been charged with the rape of a fellow student.
Jermayne Waller, a 22-year-old student at VSU, according to court documents, allegedly raped a student on campus on Dec. 1.
The crime occurred in one of the Quad residence halls on campus, according to police.
The victim reported that she, her roommate and Waller were watching a movie in bed. They all fell asleep but the victim told police she was awakened by Waller touching her and attempting intercourse.
She “fought him off" according to court paperwork, and her roommate helped her force him out of the dormitory.
Waller appeared in court Monday and was granted a $7,500 secured bond. He will be subject to electronic monitoring.
Waller, who lived on campus, is not allowed on any property owned by VSU.
According to court record, Waller will stay with his aunt.
Waller, a sophomore, studying sports management, is originally from Lynchburg.
He is listed on the 2015 VSU roster as a distance runner. His mugshot has not been released.
As part of the terms of the Clery Act, information was distributed about the alleged crime.
