BLACKSBURG, Va. -- After much speculation, Virginia Tech officially named Justin Fuente as its next head football coach Sunday.
Multiple outlets reported Saturday that the school had offered Fuente the position, but said that an official announcement would not come until Tuesday. However, official word came Sunday.
Fuente has gone 18-6 over the past two seasons at Memphis and led them to their first bowl game in six years last season. The reports came as Beamer coached his final regular season game Saturday afternoon against UVA. Afterwards, Hokies Athletic Director didn't fully deny the status of Fuente.
Meanwhile, Fuente is still the Head Coach at Memphis. The Tigers won their regular season finale over SMU 63-0 for their ninth win of the season. Fuente also address the reports on his status at Memphis and his possible move to Blacksburg.
There are several reports that once Fuente assumes the role of the next Head Coach at Virginia Tech, he will keep Bud Foster on his staff as the defensive coordinator. Foster has spent 29 seasons with the Hokies, the last 20 as the team's defensive coordinator.
