HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- The family of a man who vanished on Friday the 13th says the body found in a pond by a pastor and his son on Thanksgiving is that of James “Pooh” Green.

While officials wait for the medical examiner’s office to positively identify the body, Green's father said Thursday was the worst day of his life.

"It's not him to disappear,” James Green Jr. said. “I just don't know."

Police are calling it a suspicious death, but have not officially identified the body found on Eastgate Lake.

Green said his 35-year-old son would never abandon his family and said that the love he had for his teenage daughter was second to none.

"They were real close,” he said.

The paper plant worker disappeared on Friday. Nov. 13. His father said he knew then to prepare for the worst.

“He doesn't miss family time and doesn't miss his job,” Green said.

The family’s worst fears were realized Thanksgiving afternoon when Henrico search and rescue teams retrieved a man’s body from the shoreline Eastgate Lake off Colwyk Drive.

Green’s father said the family is waiting to hear what detectives think may have happened.

"Pooh was a good person,” Green said. “Everyone that knew him liked him. He was in contact with either his mom, daughter or wife every two or three hours. When I saw something on the news that a body was found in Henrico, it just hit me."
