Red Wine Poached Pears
2 cinnamon sticks
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 pint of Red Wine or Brandy
1/4 pint water
Zest and Juice of 1 small orange
4 firm Pears
Break up cinnamon sticks by rolling over them gently with a rolling pin. Place all pieces in large saucepan.
Add remaining ingredients except for pears.
Bring to a boil and stir occasionally until sugar is dissolved.
Peel pears leaving the stem. Core it out by cutting out from the bottom.
Stand the pears upright in saucepan. Cover the pan and simmer for 20mins until tender.
Coat pears with sauce and plate.
Serve with ice cream
