Police charge man wanted in deadly triple shooting, including 7-year-old girl

UPDATE: Police has charged Anwar R. Phillips with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and malicious wounding. Other charges are possible.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- The man wanted for a triple shooting that killed one man and left another man and a seven-year-old girl injured was shot Friday morning at a Henrico apartment complex, according to police sources. Anwar "Wawa" Phillips, 30,had been on the run since Monday night's shooting.

A Henrico Police spokesman,  who would not confirm Phillips was the shooting victim, said that Friday morning's  shooting victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police responded to a shooting at the Essex Village Apartments in Henrico Friday morning after neighbors along the 100 block of Engleside Drive heard gunshots around 6:45 a.m.

"I heard about five or six loud shots. I thought it was a shotgun," one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said. "When I looked out the window, I saw a man crawling from the building across from me."

It appeared the man was carrying a gun, the neighbor added.

The man, who sources said was Phillips, was taken to the hospital. Another person was detained for questioning at the apartment complex, Jones added.

The Essex Village Apartments are located off East Laburnum Avenue, near Richmond International Raceway.
