RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond police are searching for a suspect who carjacked a man in Richmond's Church Hill Wednesday morning.
Richmond police said officers were called to the 1600 block of North 35th Street for the report of an assault and robbery at 10:45 a.m.
When officers arrived, the man said he had been assaulted and robbed by man with a gun when he was outside his vehicle. The victim said the suspect walked up and told him to hand over his valuables.
When the victim said he didn’t have anything, the suspect hit him in the face and took off with his keys and his vehicle.
"A few minutes later the vehicle was recovered by Department officers five blocks away in the 1100 block of North 35th Street," RPD spokesman James Mercante said in a news release. "Police units circulated the area and First Precinct Detectives interviewed witnesses and is conducting the investigation."
The victim suffered a minor facial injury.
The suspect is described as a black male, between 30-40 years old, about five feet 10 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, a tan jacket and a black skull cap. He had a goatee and had a medium to brown complexion.
