NORFOLK, Va. — The search continued Wednesday afternoon for the thieves who stole a car with an eight-year-old child inside. The boy was sitting in the carlistening to music while his mother worked inside a Norfolk post office, WTKR reported. The car keys were left in the ignition, Norfolk Police said.
Once the mother reported her son, and her car, missing, police put out an alert to be on the lookout for the stolen Chevy Impala. Shortly thereafter, police reported the child was found safe in his classroom at Ghent Elementary School.
“The abducted child stated two unknown men got into the vehicle, asked the child what school he attended and then dropped the child off,” a Norfolk Police spokesperson said. “The abandoned vehicle was found approximately three miles from Ghent Elementary.”
Police have not yet confirmed any charges against the mother who left the child in the car. Anyone with information about the crime was asked to call 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (1-888-562-5887).
