Dr. Michael Gill named Hanover’s new Superintendent of Schools

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — The Hanover School Board announced Dr. Michael B. Gill would become the county’s new Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Gill, who has lived in the Richmond area his entire life, had previously served as the county’s Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Leadership and Chief Academic Officer. Prior to his career in school administration, Gill taught high school history in Caroline. More recently he held various positions in Chesterfield County Schools including Director of Middle School Education, Executive Principal for Career and Technical Education, Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, and Department Chair.

“We have been very impressed with Dr. Gill since he assumed his role as Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Leadership in 2014. His résumé is filled with experiences and positions that uniquely qualify him to lead our division to greater heights,” Hanover County School Board Chairman Robert L. Hundley, Jr. said. “His vision for our schools is to ensure high quality educational opportunities for all students, and the Board is thrilled to have a leader of his caliber as our new superintendent.”

Dr. Gill earned a Doctor of Education, Master’s degree, and post-Master’s certificate from Virginia Commonwealth University where he is currently a Professor of Practice in the Doctor of Education program. Gill’s first day as Superintendent is December 1.
