RICHMOND, Va. -- A storm system will move from the Plains into our area over the next 48 hours. Clouds will increase into Saturday night, and skies Sunday will be mostly cloudy. A couple of passing showers are possible Sunday, but the bulk of the rain will hold off until after Sunday evening.
Rain will spread into the area Sunday night into Monday. Intensity will pick up as well, so the Monday morning commute looks to be a soggy one. We will see periods of rain on Monday, with some of the heaviest rain falling south of I-64. The storm system will pass to our southeast Tuesday morning, and we should dry out by around daybreak Tuesday.
Looking at the computer models over the past few days, each new model run tends to be a little wetter than the previous one. While one of the models is suggesting most of the steadier rain will stay towards the North Carolina border, the majority are bringing in the potential for at least an inch of rain in Richmond. Totals would be lower farther north and higher farther south. A couple of the models are showing over two inches, and one model is showing over three inches. The lowest and the higher ones are likely skewed a bit, but the models all average out to around one inch, which seems reasonable for the storm track and intensity.
Following the storm's departure, the remainder of the week should be dry with highs warming up through the 70s.
