CULPEPER COUNTY, Va. -- A registered sex offender is behind bars accused of approaching a teenage girl outside a Virginia high school.   Kenneth Brown Jr., 23,  parked in front of Culpeper County High School Tuesday at 12:50 p.m., according to the Culpeper Sheriff's Office.

When Sgt. Curtis confronted Brown, he said Brown confessed he had been posing as a 17-year-old boy. He also admitted he was a registered sex offender.

"He stated he was inquiring about the female student’s contact information and relationship status," the sheriff's office posted on Facebook. "As Curtis stepped closer to the vehicle, he noticed that there was a hunting knife visible on the man’s hip."

Curtis took the knife before the suspect was handcuffed and taken into custody.

A woman who said she knew Brown said he was a father and that she was not surprised by the charges. She said he would make sexual references when she would hang out with him.

Brown was arrested on two felony charges of being a registered sex offender on school property and a being a sex offender being in contact with a juvenile. He was also charged with a misdemeanor of having possession of a weapon on school property.
