CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Chesterfield County police are investigating after a woman was shot at Bristol Village at Charter Colony in Midlothian.

Police told CBS 6 they are still trying to figure out how the woman was shot, but she’s facing non-life threatening injuries.

Police sources say that the victim called a family member and said her husband was acting strange earlier in the day. The victim's husband has dementia and says he doesn’t remember what happened.

Neighbors said they were stunned hearing a shot was fired in their neighborhood. Michael Seckora said he saw the scene unfold in the parking lot and he was shocked.

"I saw cops everywhere, two or three ambulances. I had no idea what was going on," said Seckora. "It’s usually a quiet and peaceful place."

Neighbors said the husband and wife involved always hold hands as they shuffle out to their car.

Savannah Parker, who lives in apartment complex, said the couple always seems nice and humble.

"Me and my mom were worried that something may have happened to my neighbors," said Parker.

Police said the shooting may involve elements of mental illness and it's too early to go into further detail. No charges have been filed at this time.
