AMELIA COUNTY, Va. -- The Amelia County Sheriff's office has confirmed to CBS 6 a Cumberland County man has been arrested on charges of possession of child pornography.

David James Fisher, 51, was arrested by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office on an Amelia County warrant. He was transported to Piedmont Regional Jail.

Sources tell CBS 6, Fisher is a teacher for Amelia County Public Schools.

Amelia County Schools released a statement that said:

The employee involved in this situation was immediately removed from the school pending further investigation.  We appreciate the quick and appropriate response by the Amelia County Sheriff's Department and we are cooperating with them fully in their investigation.  We cannot comment further at this time because it involves an open investigation and a personnel matter but we want to ensure parents, staff, and the community that the Amelia County Public School system is committed to the safety of our students.  We have and will continue to take the steps necessary to ensure a safe school environment.

CBS 6 talked to one parent who wants to remain anonymous, she said this is very frightening. "You just don't know who to trust anymore," she said.

Some parents told CBS 6 that this arrest will have them on high alert.

"I'm really going to stay on top of things now," said the parent.

Fisher is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday November 2, in the Amelia County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
