RICHMOND, Va. -- Ten vehicles at the Richmond Auto Auction, on Deepwater Terminal Road, were burned down to their frames early Friday morning, according to fire officials. Fire crews were called when someone spotted cars on fire in the back lot, which sits just off Interstate 95 near the Bells Road exit.

Smoke was still billowing from the vehicles and tiny explosions could be heard from the street in front of the Auto Auction building when CBS 6 crews arrived.

The engines responding to the scene at about 2:30 a.m. could not immediately access the back lot because of security gates, so firefighters had to wait for an employee to let them in. Once inside, firefighters said they got the fire out quickly.

Investigators said the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
