CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- The new Kroger Marketplace, located at 10800 Iron Bridge Rd., cut their ribbon, opening their doors for business Wednesday morning.

The Kroger Marketplace is now one of the largest stores in the Richmond area. The Chester store also features one of the largest organic food sections, and the biggest wine selection of any grocery store in metro Richmond.

Hundreds waited in line for the grand opening ceremony that was held just before 8 a.m.

Store Manager, Alice Jones, said the store has hired over 360 associates and most of them are from the community.

As a welcome gift to the community, Kroger said it's giving away a $2,500 to Chesterfield-focused organizations and nonprofits. The money will go to:

  • Chesterfield County Fire and EMS Cares Emergency Fund
  • The Chesterfield Police Foundation
  • Chesterfield County Food Bank
  • L.C. Bird High School
  • Thomas Dale High school
