RICHMOND, Va -- Tuesday is an important day for Virginia voters.
October 13th is the deadline to register to vote for the November elections. People interested in casting a ballot need to register before the close of business.
Seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, the Virginia Senate, county boards of supervisors, and school boards are among the ones up for grabs. The Virginia Department of Elections has a full list of the candidates running in state and local races on its website. It also has a list of electionsthroughout the commonwealth.
Voter registration forms are available at public libraries, DMV offices, the Virginia Department of Elections, and voter registration drives. They are also available online. Completed forms can be mailed to or dropped off at a local registration office. Here's where you can find the one in your area.
Those interested in registering to vote need to:
- Be a Virginia resident
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Be 18 years old by the time of the next general election
- Not be registered to vote in another state
- Not have been found to be mentally incompetent by a court
- Convicted felons need to have had voting rights restored
